The Special Committee of the Senate on the Pearson Airport Agreements met this day, at 9:04 a.m., the Honourable Senator Finlay MacDonald (Halifax), presiding.

Members of the Committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Bryden, Jessiman, Kirby, LeBreton, Lynch-Staunton and MacDonald. (7)

In attendance: John Nelligan, Q.C., Counsel to the Committee.

WITNESSES:

From Fisheries and Oceans Canada:

William Rowat, Deputy Minister (formerly Associate Deputy Minister of Transport Canada).

From Transport Canada:

John Desmarais, Senior Advisor to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Airports Group.

From Justice Canada:

Robert Green, Q.C., Senior General Counsel (Transport Canada);

Jacques Pigeon, Q.C., General Counsel (Transport Canada).

The Committee resumed its examination of the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on May 4, 1995.

The Clerk of the Committee administered the oath/solemn affirmation and declaration to the witnesses, pursuant to section 13 of the Parliament of Canada Act.

The witnesses made a statement and answered questions.

It was agreed, - That the following document be appended to the proceedings of this day: "Response to points raised in the Greg Weston Citizen articles of Saturday, September 25, 1993, Sunday, September 26, 1993" (LA001266).

At 12:07 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 2:03 p.m., the sitting resumed.

At 4:06 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
