The Subcommittee on Boreal Forest of the Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met at 9:04 a.m. this day, in Room 505, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Doris Anderson, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Anderson, Spivak and Taylor (3).

Other senator in attendance: The Honourable Senator Gustafson.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Dan Shaw, Research Officer; Media Relations Officer of the subcommittee: Barbara Robson.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to its order of reference to study the present state and future of forestry in Canada: study of the Boreal Forest.

WITNESSES:

From Natural Resources Canada:

Mr. Jacques Carette, Director General, Policy, Planning and International Affairs Branch, Canadian Forest Service;

Ms Pauline Myre, Director of Policy, Policy, Planning and International Affairs Branch, Canadian Forest Service.

Mr. Carette made a brief presentation and, with Ms Myre, answered questions.

The Honourable Senator Spivak moved, -- That the questions formulated in the briefing notes provided by the Library of Parliament be forwarded to the witnesses for written response and that the response be filed as an official exhibit upon receipt by the Clerk of the Committee.

The question being put on the motion, -- it was agreed.

At 11:14 a.m., the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
