The Subcommittee on Communications of the Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met at 4:30 p.m. this day, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Marie-P. Poulin, presiding.
Members of the subcommittee present: The Honourable Senators Johnson, Poulin and Spivak. (3)
In attendance: Matthew Fraser, Expert Consultant; Terrence J. Thomas, Research Officer, Economics Division, Research Branch, Library of Parliament; Michel Patrice, Legislative Clerk, Committees and Private Legislation Directorate.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

The subcommittee resumed consideration of its study on Canada's international competitive position in communications as authorized by the Senate on May 1, 1996 and the committee on May 2, 1996.
The witnesses from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation made a statement and answered questions.
It was agreed, -- THAT the presentation by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation be filed with the Clerk of the subcommittee as Exhibit 6050-2.35/C1, "18".
At 5:25 p.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 5:42 p.m., the sitting resumed.
David Silcox made a statement and answered questions.
It was agreed, -- THAT the presentation by David Silcox be filed with the Clerk of the subccommittee as Exhibit 6050-2.35/C1, "19".
The witnesses from IBM Canada Inc. made a statement and answered questions.
It was agreed, -- THAT the discussion paper by IBM Canada Inc. entitled Multimedia content & services in a new world: a rationalized convergence policy framework for Canada be filed with the Clerk of the Committee as Exhibit 6050-2.35/C1, "20".
