The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met at 5:15 p.m. this day, in Room 356-S, the Chairman, the Honourable Senator Tkachuk, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Tkachuk, Bolduc, Cools, De Bané, Forest, Haidasz, Kelly, Lavoie-Roux, Rizzuto, Stanbury and Stratton (11).
Other senators present: The Honourable Senator Corbin.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Centre: Dr. Edward J.D. Ketchum, Director of Research.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to its Orders of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, May 30, 1996, the Committee resumed its examination of Bill C-31, An Act to implement certains provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 6, 1996.
Mr. Campbell made an opening statement and with Messrs Gussen and Watson, answered questions.
At a later date, the Department of Finance will provide written responses to questions ask by the Honourable Senator Haidasz on Canada Health and Social Transfer (CHST).
At 6:30 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
