The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met at 11:00 a.m. this day, in Room 505-VB, the Chairman, the Honourable Senator Tkachuk, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Tkachuk, Cools, Forest, Kelly, Milne, Stratton and Taylor (7)

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament, Research Branch: Guy Beaumier.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

WITNESSES:

From the Treasury Board of Canada:

David Miller, Assistant Secretary, Expenditure Management Sector;

Michael Joyce, Director, Estimates Division.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 4, 1997, the committee resumed the examination of Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 1998.

Mr. Miller made short opening statement, and with Mr. Joyce, answered questions.

At a later date, Treasury Board will provide written responses to questions asked by members.

At 12:15 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
