The Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration met at 8:30 a.m. this day, the Chairman, the Honourable Senator Kenny presiding.
Members of the Committee present: The Honourable Senators Carstairs, Cochrane, Cohen, Davey, Forrestall, Kenny, Milne, Nolin, Petten, Poulin and Wood. (11)
Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Comeau, Corbin, Oliver, Spivak, Stewart and Taylor (6).
In attendance: Officials of the Senate.
The Committee proceeded in camera.
At 10:25 a.m. the Committee proceeded in public.

It was agreed that the budget of the Fisheries Committee (Legislation) for 1996-97 be adopted as follows:
Professional and Special Services $12,000
Witnesses Expenses 6,000
All Other Expenditures 500

It was agreed that the budget of the Agriculture and Forestry Committee (Special Study - Forestry) for 1996-97 be adopted as follows:
Professional and Other Services $24,400
Transport and Communications 38,919

All Other Expenditures 500
TOTAL $76,669

It was agreed that the budget of the Foreign Affairs Committee (Legislation) for 1996-97 be adopted as follows:
Professional and Other Services $7,900

It was agreed that staff prepare a proposal on the set-up and art work in the new Committee room to be called the "Aboriginal Peoples' Room". It was agreed that Senators Corbin and Poulin be given the responsibility of looking after the June 21 ceremony.

It was agreed that a Subcommittee, consisting of Senators Corbin (Chair), Poulin and Cohen, be established to consult the four aboriginal Senators with respect to the decorations, set-up and financing of the new Committee Room to be called the "Aboriginal Peoples' Room" and that the Subcommittee be charged with looking after the June 21 ceremony.

It was agreed that the Clerk advise the Library of Parliament that the Committee authorizes the Library to resume the East Block tours beginning July 2, subject to the Library making suitable arrangements in advance with the Senate Protective Staff. However, the Committee did not accept the principle of a visitors boutique in the East Block.

It was agreed that further consideration of Senator Oliver's proposal to establish a Canadian PITCOM Committee be postponed until the next meeting of the Committee and that Senator Oliver circulate additional documents.
At 10:50 a.m., the Committee proceeded in camera.
At 11:45 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
