The Standing Senate Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration met at 11:05 a.m. this day, the Chairman, the Honourable Senator Kenny presiding.
Members of the Committee present: The Honourable Senators Carstairs, Cohen, Corbin, De Bané, Di Nino, Forest, Forrestall, Kenny, LeBreton, Nolin, Poulin, Rompkey and Stollery. (13)
Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Bacon, Cools, Prud'homme and Oliver (4).
In attendance: Mr. Paul Bélisle, Clerk of the Senate and other Senate officials.
The Committee proceeded in camera.
At 1:50 p.m., the Committee proceeded in public.
The document entitled "The Restructuring of Senate Committee" was reviewed without change.

After debate,
It was agreed that the paper be reported to the Senate with a request that it be referred to the Standing Committee on Privileges, Standing Rules and Order.
The Committee resumed its consideration of the proposal of Senator Oliver to establish a PITCOM Committee, and .

After debate,
It was agreed that the proposal not be adopted at this time but the Committee would be open to reinstating the item on the Agenda at a later time if new information comes forward.

The budget of the Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs for its special study of the Amendment of the Constitution of Canada (Total Amount: $118,100) was tabled for information purposes.
It was agreed that the proposal of Senator Cochrane and Senator Wood, that the most appropriate location for the bust of Senator John M. Macdonald be in the small alcove off the hallway between the Reading Room and the rear entrance to the Senate Chamber, be adopted.
The Chair asked Members of the Committee to review and to send their comments on the following documents: (1) "The Senate Today"; (2) "Senate Brochure"; and (3) "Script of East Block Tour Guides".
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of the Report of the Subcommittee on the Aboriginal People's Room, presented by Senator Corbin

It was agreed that a proposal to take on professional staff to advise on the decoration and layout of the room be developed and brought forward at the next meeting and that the aboriginal senators be asked to consider the proposal.
At 3:35 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
