The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs, met this day in Room 256-S, Centre Block, at 9:30 a.m., the Chair, the Honourable Senator Sharon Carstairs, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: The Honourable Senators Beaudoin, Bryden, Carstairs, Corbin, Doyle, Jessiman, Lewis, Losier-Cool, Milne, and Pearson (10).
In attendance: Jane Allain, Research Officer, Research Branch of the Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 21, 1996, the Committee continued its consideration of Bill C-8, An Act respecting the control of certain drugs, their precursors and other substances and to amend certain other Acts and repeal the Narcotic Control Act in consequence thereof. (See Issue No. 2, Wednesday, March 27, 1996, for full text of Order of Reference.)
Tamra Thomson made an opening statement.
John Conroy made a statement.
Irwin Koziebrocki made a statement and, together with Ms Thomson and Mr. Conroy, answered questions.
At 11:00 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
