The Subcommittee on Post-Secondary education met at 7:35 p.m. this day in Room 256-S, Centre Block, the Chairman, the Honourable M. Lorne Bonnell, presiding.
Members of the subcommittee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Bonnell, DeWare, Forest, Losier-Cool and Perrault (6).
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Grant Purves, Research Officer.

Pursuant to the order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, June 19, 1996, the subcommittee resumed its consideration of the inquiry on the serious state of Post-Secondary education in Canada (for complete text of Order of Reference see Proceedings of the Subcommittee dated August 6, 1996, Issue No. 1 ).
Steve Wilson made an opening statement and, together with Stephannie Roy and Tracey Henry, answered questions.
Irving Gold and Matthew Hough made an opening presentation and answered questions.
Jennifer Storey and Brad Lavigne made an opening statement and, together with Jocelyn Charron and Denise Doherty-Delorme, answered questions.
At 10:00 p.m. the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, June 19, 1996, the subcommittee resumed its consideration of the inquiry on the serious state of Post-Secondary education in Canada (for complete text of Order of Reference see Proceedings of the Committee dated August 6, 1996, Issue No. 1 ).
Senator Losier-Cool moved adoption of the subcommittee budget.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
Sue Wiesner and Judy Stymest made an opening statement and answered questions. The subcommittee requested that a copy of CASFAA's 1994 work-study programme be tabled with the Clerk.
Mike Lapointe made an opening statement and, together with Sandra Ferguson, answered questions. The subcommittee requested that CIBC send data relating to bankruptcy and default on Canada Student Loans to the Clerk.
Jane Weatherbie made an opening statement and answered questions.
Ms Weatherbie tabled three documents with the Clerk:
(a) "Brain Money", which was retained as Exhibit No. 6050-2.35/P1 3 "6";
(b) the "Presentation for High Schools on Brain Money", which was retained as Exhibit No. 6050-2.35/P1 3 "7"; and
(c) the "Student's Guide to Financial Survival", which was retained as Exhibit No. 6050-2.35/P1 3 "8".
At the subcommittee's request, Ms Weatherbie also agreed to forward information regarding the Bank of Montreal's scholarship programs to the subcommittee.
At 11:07 a.m., the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
