The Subcommittee on Transportation Safety of the Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met at 12:15 p.m. this day, the Chair, the Honourable J. Michael Forrestall, presiding.
Members of the subcommittee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Bacon, Forrestall, Mercier and Roberge. (5)
In attendance: John Christopher, Research Officer, Research Branch, Library of Parliament; Bruce Carson, Senior Advisor.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
The subcommittee proceeded to consider the state of transportation safety and security in Canada pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on October 2, 1996 and the resolution of the Committee adopted on October 24, 1996.
WITNESSES:
From the Canadian Trucking Association:
Graham Cooper, Director, Government Affairs and Acting General Manager;
Michèle LeBlanc, Director, Research;
Gilles Bélanger, President.
Mr. Bélanger made a statement and together with the other witnesses answered questions.
It was agreed, -- THAT the presentation by the Canadian Trucking Association be filed with the clerk of the subcommittee as Exhibit 6050-2.35/T1 "33".
At 1:52 p.m., the subcommittee agreed to proceed in camera to discuss future business.
At 1:59 p.m., the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
