The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day, at 9:00 a.m. in Salon Malaspina, Waterfront Centre Hotel, Vancouver, the Deputy Chairman, the Honourable David Tkachuk, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Hervieux-Payette, P.C., Kelleher, P.C., Kenny, Meighen, Oliver, St. Germain, P.C. and Tkachuk (7).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Lawson (1).
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament, Ms June Dewetering, Researcher, Economics Division.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 12, 1998, the committee proceeded to study the governance provisions set out in the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board Act (previously Bill C-2). (See Issue No. 8, February 17, 1998, for the full text of the Order of Reference .)
Professor Grubel made an opening statement and answered questions.
Professor Stanbury made an opening statement and answered questions.
Mr. MacDougall made an opening statement and answered questions.
