The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met at 10:50 a.m. this day, in Room 356-S, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Stratton, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bolduc, Cook, Cools, De Bané, P.C., Ferretti Barth, Fraser Mahovlich and Stratton (8).

In attendance: Mr. Guy Beaumier, Research Branch, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, December 9, 1998, the committee began its examination of Bill C-41, An Act to amend the Royal Canadian Mint Act and the Currency Act.

WITNESSES:

From the Royal Canadian Mint:

Danielle Wetherup, Master of the Mint;

Beverley Ann Lepine, Vice-President, Administration and Finance;

Marguerite F. Nadeau, Q.C., Senior Counsel and Corporate, Secretary Legal Services.

Ms Wetherup from the Royal Canadian Mint made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

The committee considered its future business.

At 12:20 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
