The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs, met this day, in Room 257, East Block, at 10:45 a.m., the Honourable Lorna Milne, Chair, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Bryden, Fraser, Milne, Moore and Nolin (6).

In attendance: Nancy Holmes and David Goetz, Research Officers, Research Branch, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, June 8, 1999, the committee commenced its consideration of Bill C-69, An Act to amend the Criminal Records Act and to amend another Act in consequence.

APPEARING:

The Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, P.C., M.P., Solicitor General of Canada.

WITNESSES:

From the Department of the Solicitor General of Canada:

Richard Zubrycki, Director General, Corrections Directorate, Policy Branch;

Mary Campbell, Director, Corrections Policy.

The Chair made a statement.

The Honourable Lawrence MacAulay made a statement and, together with Richard Zubrycki and Mary Campbell, answered questions.

At 12:25 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
