The Standing Committee on Privileges, Standing Rules and Orders met at 6:00 p.m. this day, in camera, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Maheu, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beaudoin, Carstairs, Chalifoux, Cools, DeWare, Fraser, Gill, Hervieux-Payette, P.C., Joyal, P.C., Kelly, Kenny, Maheu, Robertson, Robichaudm P.C. and Rossiter (15).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Atkins, Grafstein and Prud'homme, P.C. (3).

In attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

At 6:45 p.m, the meeting adjourned to the call of the Chair.

The Standing Committee on Privileges, Standing Rules and Orders met at 7:07 p.m. this day, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Maheu, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bacon, Cools, Cook, DeWare, Joyal, P.C., Kelly, Kenny, Maheu and Rossiter (9).

In attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

The committee proceeded to the reconsideration of the restructuring of Senate committees.

It was agreed that the Rules of the Senate should be modified as follows:

Rule 86(1)

i) Sections (f) and (g): replace "fifteen" with "no more than twelve."

ii) Sections (h) to (q): replace "twelve" with "no more than twelve."

It was agreed that the clerk prepare a motion which would include the necessary changes to the rules, the blocking situation and how it could work. This motion should be reviewed by the steering committee before presenting it to the full committee.

At 7:22 p.m, the meeting adjourned to the call of the Chair.
