The Special Committee on Transportation Safety and Security met this day at 6:10 p.m., in Room 505, Victoria Building, the Chairman, the Honourable Senator Forrestall, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Forrestall, Maloney, Roberge (3).

In attendance: Keith Miller, Special Advisor on Aviation; John Christopher, Library of Parliament Researcher.

WITNESSES:

From the Air Canada Pilots Association:

Captain Richard Sowden, Chair, Technical and Safety Division;

Mr. Peter Foster, Manager, Technical and Safety Division.

From the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association:

Mr. Kevin Psutka.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on June 18, 1998, the committee continued its study on the state of transportation safety and security in Canada (See Issue No. 1 for the complete text of the Order of Reference).

Captain Sowden made a presentation and answered questions from committee members.

Mr. Psutka made a presentation and answered questions from committee members.

At 8:45 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
