The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met at 5:05 p.m. this day, in room 257, East Block, the Chair, the Honourable Mira Spivak, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Buchanan, P.C., Christensen, Cochrane, Kelleher, P.C., Spivak and Taylor (7).
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament, Frederic Forge, Science and Technology Division and Lynne Myers, Researcher.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
The committee, in compliance with its Order of Reference dated December 1, 1999, proceeded to examine such issues as may arise from time to time relating to energy, the environment, and natural resources generally in Canada (Environmental assessments of genetically engineered agricultural products). ( See Issue No. 2, December 7, 1999, for the full text of the order of Reference. )

The witnesses from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency made a presentation and answered questions.
At 6:07 the committee suspended.
At 6:20 the committee resumed.
