The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries met this day at 6:00 p.m. in room 257, East Block, the Chair, the Honourable Gerald J. Comeau, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Carney, P.C., Comeau, Cook, Furey, Johnson, Mahovlich, Meighen, Perrault, P.C., Perry Poirier, Robertson and Robichaud, P.C. (Saint-Louis-de-Kent) (11).
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Claude Emery, Research Officer.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate

Mr. Michel Leclerc, Special Advisor, Aquaculture, Policy Sector;
Dr. John Davis, Assistant Deputy Minister, Science;
Mr. David Bevan, Director General, Resource Management Directorate, Fisheries Management.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, December 7, 1999, the committee continued its examination upon the matters relating to the fishing industry.
Mr. Leclerc made a statement and answered questions.
The Honourable Herb Dhaliwal made an opening statement and together with Mr. Stagg, Mr. Bevan and Dr. Davis answered questions.
It was agreed -- THAT the presentation and letter of the Minister be filed as an exhibit (5900 F1-SS-1, 6 "14") with the Clerk of the Committee.
It was agreed -- THAT the presentation of Michel Leclerc be filed as an exhibit (5900 F1-SS-1, 6 "15") with the Clerk of the Committee
The committee agreed to discuss at the meeting on April 11 the issue of Devils Lake and whether to invite the Premier of Manitoba and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to appear before the committee.
At 8:00 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
