The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs met this day at 3:38 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the Chair, the Honourable Lorna Milne, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beaudoin, Buchanan, P.C., Cools, Fraser, Joyal, P.C., Milne, Moore, Nolin, Pearson, and Poy (10).
In attendance: From the Senate: Mark Audcent, Law Clerk and Parliamentary Counsel; from the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Nancy Holmes and Marilyn Pilon, Research Officers.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, February 22, 2000, the committee began its examination of Bill C-202, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (flight).
WITNESS:
From the House of Commons:
Dan McTeague, M.P., sponsor of the bill.
Mr. McTeague made a presentation and answered questions.
Mr. Audcent was invited to the table and answered questions.
It was agreed that the committee instruct the Senate Law Clerk and Parliamentary Counsel to undertake measures necessary to correct the printing error occurring in the parchment by replacing, at line 43 of page 2 of the English version of the bill, the word "court" with the word "count", and that this be noted in the committee's report to the Senate on the bill.
Mr. McTeague continued to answer questions.
At 4:40 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
