The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs met this day at 10:53 a.m. in room 257, East Block, the Chair, the Honourable Lorna Milne, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Beaudoin, Cools, Joyal, Kinsella, P.C., Milne, Moore, Nolin, Pearson, and Poy (10).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Grafstein (1).
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Nancy Holmes, Margaret Young, and Jay Sinha, Research Officers; and from the Committees and Private Legislation Directorate: Josée Thérien, Legislative Clerk.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, June 20, 2000, the committee continued its examination of Bill C-16, An Act respecting Canadian citizenship (see Proceedings of the Committee, Issue No. 20, dated September 20, 2000, for full text of Order of Reference).
The Honourable Senator Kinsella tabled with the Clerk of the Committee the text of proposed amendments to Bill C-16, to be filed as Exhibit No. 5900 E1/C-16, 24 "2".
The Honourable Senator Grafstein tabled with the Clerk of the Committee the text of proposed amendments to Bill C-16 and a related document, to be filed as Exhibit No. 5900 E1/C-16, 24 "3".
The Honourable Senator Joyal, P.C., tabled with the Clerk of the Committee the text of proposed amendments to Bill C-16, to be filed as Exhibit No. 5900 E1/C-16, 24 "4".
The Honourable Senator Moore tabled with the Clerk of the Committee the text of proposed amendments to Bill C-16 to be filed as Exhibit No. E1/C-16, 24 "5".
The Honourable Senator Cools tabled with the Clerk of the Committee the text of proposed amendments to Bill C-16 to be filed as Exhibit No. E1/C-16, 24 "6".
