The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day at 3:30 p.m., in Room 505, Victoria Building, the Chairman, the Honourable Lise Bacon, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams; Bacon, Callbeck, Finestone, P.C., Forrestall, Johnson, Kirby, LeBreton, Perrault, P.C., Poulin and Roberge (11).
Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Ghitter and Watt (2).
In attendance: Martin Brennan and Keith Miller, special advisors to the committee
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Kevin E. Benson, President and Chief Executive Officer;
Stephen Markey, Senior Vice-President, Corporate and Government Affairs;
Scott Bradley, Government Relations.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on October 14, 1999, the committee proceeded to study the order laid before the Senate on September 14, 1999, authorizing certain major air carriers and persons to negotiate and enter into any conditional agreement, pursuant to subsection 47(5) of the Canada Transportation Act. (See Issue No. 1, Tuesday, October 26, 1999 for full text of the Order of Reference.)
Mr. Benson made a statement and all witnesses answered questions from the members of the committee.
It was agreed, -- That the brief by Canadian Airlines be filed with the Clerk of the Committee as Exhibit 5900-2.36/T1-S1-08-07.
At 5:05 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
