(17) [English] The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met at 5:51 p.m., this day, in Room 705, Victoria Building, the Deputy Chair, the Honourable Senator Isobel Finnerty presiding. Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Banks, Bolduc, Cools, De Bané, P.C., Ferretti Barth, Finnerty, Stratton, Tunney (8). Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Morin (1). In attendance: Mr. Guy Beaumier, Research Officer, Library of Parliament. Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate. APPEARING: The Honourable Jim Peterson, P.C., M.P., Secretary of State WITNESSES: From the Department of Finance: Richard Botham, Chief, Knowledge Economy and Innovation, Economic and Corporate Finance Branch; Bob Bartlett, Senior Analyst, Government Financing Section, Financial Markets Division, Financial Sector Policy Branch. Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on May 30, 2001, the committee undertook its examination of Bill C-17, An Act to amend the Budget Implementation Act, 1997 and the Financial Administration Act. Mr. Peterson made an opening statement and with Mr. Botham and Mr. Bartlett answered questions from members of the committee. It was agreed that the committee move to clause-by-clause study of the bill. It was agreed to stand the title. It was agreed that clause 1 carry. It was agreed that clause 2 carry. It was agreed that clause 3 carry. It was agreed that clause 4 carry. It was agreed that clause 5 carry. It was agreed that clause 6 carry. It was agreed that the bill be adopted. It was agreed that the Chairman report the bill at the next sitting of the Senate. At 6:39 p.m. the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair ATTEST:
