The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met at 9:01 a.m., this day, in room 256-S, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Murray, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bolduc, Cook, Cools, Comeau, Ferretti Barth, Kinsella, Mahovlich, Murray and Rompkey (9).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Banks.

In attendance: Mr. Guy Beaumier, Research Officer, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on March 20, 2002, the committee continued its examination of Bill C-49.

WITNESSES:

From United Steelworkers of America:

Dennis Deveau, Governmental Liaison;

Lawrence McBrearty, National Director;

Roger Falconer, Education Department Head.

From the Association of Canadian Travel Agents:

Martin Taller, Board Member, ACTA (Ontario).

From Tourism Industry Association of Canada:

Randall M. Williams, President and CEO.

From Air Transport Association of Canada:

Clifford Mackay, President and CEO;

Warren Everson, Vice-President.

Mr. McBrearty made an opening statement and with Mr. Deveau answered question from members of the committee.

Mr. Mackay made an opening statement and with Mr. Everson answered questions from members of the committee.

Mr. Taller made an opening statement and with Mr. Williams answered questions from members of the committee.

At 10:56 a.m. the meeting continued in camera.

After discussion, it was agreed that the committee meet at 1:00 p.m. on Monday March 25, 2002 to continue hearings on Bill C-49.

At 11:07 a.m., committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
