The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met at 9:35 a.m., this day, in room 705, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Murray presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Banks, Bolduc, Cools, Doody, Fraser, Lynch- Staunton, Mahovlich, Murray, Stratton, Tunney (10).
In attendance: Mr. Guy Beaumier, Research Officer, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on March 6, 2002, the Committee continued its examination of the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2003.
WITNESSES:
From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada:
Sheila Fraser, Auditor General;
Anne-Marie Smith, Principal;
John Hodgins, Principal.
The committee began its examination of the Government Contingencies Vote — Treasury Board Vote 5.
Ms Fraser made an opening statement and with Ms Smith and Mr. Hodgins answered questions from the members of the committee.
At 10:52 a.m., the committee continued its sitting in camera to discuss its future business.
After discussion, it was agreed that in the committee's examination of the Government Contingencies Vote, the Secretary of the Treasury Board be invited to appear separately following the appearance of Mr. Richard Neville, the Deputy Comptroller General.
After discussion, it was moved by the Honourable Senator Cools that the Chairman of the National Capital Commission be invited before the committee to discuss the Estimates of the Commission for the 2002-2003 fiscal year.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
At 11:04 a.m., committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
