The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries met this day at 7:10 p.m. in Room 257, East Block, the Chair, the Honourable Gerald Comeau, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, De Bané, Comeau, Forrestall, Mahovlich, Meighen, Robichaud (7).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Buchanan (1).

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament: Claude Emery, Research Officer

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

WITNESS:

From the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries - Nova Scotia:

Peter Underwood, Deputy Minister.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 13, 2001, the committee continued its examination upon the matters relating to the fishing industry. (See Issue No. 1, March 20, 2001, for the full text of the Order of Reference).

Mr. Underwood made a statement and answered questions.

It was agreed - That the material presented by Mr. Peter Underwood, Deputy Minister, Nova Scotia, Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, be filed as an exhibit with the clerk of the committee (Exhibit 5900 F1-SS-1, 6"19").

At 8:45 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
