The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries met this day at 7:00 p.m. in room 705, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Gerald Comeau, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Comeau, Cook, Gill, Mahovlich, Phalen, Robertson and Tunney (8).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Baker (1).

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament: Claude Emery, Research Officer.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, March 25, 2002, the committee continued its examination of matters relating to oceans and fisheries.

WITNESSES:

From the Ecology Action Centre:

Mark Butler, Marine Coordinator.

From the Marine Invertebrate Diversity Initiative Society:

Dr. Derek Davis, Chair.

Mr. Butler made a statement and answered questions.

Dr. Davis made a statement and answered questions.

It was agreed — That the material provided by the Ecology Action Centre as an exhibit with the Clerk of the Committee (Exhibit 5900-1.37/F1-SS-2, 17 ``1'').

It was agreed — That the material provided by the Marine Invertebrate Diversity Initiative Society be filed as an exhibit with the Clerk of the Committee (Exhibit 5900-1.37/F1-SS-2, 17 ``2'').

At 8:55 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
