(25) [English] The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day, in Room 257, East Block, at 12:04 p.m., the Deputy Chair, the Honourable Marjory LeBreton, presiding. Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cook, Cordy, Fairbairn, P.C., Graham, P.C., LeBreton and Morin (6). In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Howard Chodos, from the Committees and Private Legislation Directorate: Josée Thérien, Legislative Clerk. Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate. Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 1, 2001, the committee continued its consideration of the special study on the state of the health care system in Canada. WITNESSES: (By Videoconference) From the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services: Christine Schmidt, Deputy to the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health Policy, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation; Ariel Winter, Analyst; Tanya Alteras, Analyst.
