The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day at 4:05 p.m., in room 256, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Lise Bacon, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Atkins, Bacon, Biron, Callbeck, Jaffer and LaPierre (6).
In attendance: Joseph Dion, Researcher for the Library of Parliament and Martin Brennan, Special Advisor to the Committee.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on September 26, 2001, the Committee proceeded to the examination of issues facing the intercity busing industry (See Issue No. 21, Monday, February 11, 2002, Tuesday, February 12, 2002, Wednesday, February 13, 2002, for full text of the Order of Reference.)
WITNESSES:
Officials from Transport Canada:
Mr. Émile Di Sanza, Director, Motor Carrier Policy;
Ms Guylaine Roy, Director General, Surface Transportation Policy;
Mr. Brian Orrbine, Senior Policy Advisor, Road Safety Programs.
From Statistics Canada:
Mr. Douglas A. Norris, Director General, Census and Demographic Statistics Branch;
Mr. Gord Baldwin, Director, Transportation Division.
The witnesses made a presentation and answered questions.
Statistics Canada and Transport Canada submitted a brief.
At 5:25 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 6:03 p.m., the committee resumed.
At 6:54 p.m., it was agreed — That the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair.
