The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries met this day at 7:00 p.m., in room 256-S of the Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Gerald J. Comeau, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Comeau, Cook, Hubley, Mahovlich, Meighen and Phalen (7).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Prud'homme (1).
In attendance: Claude Emery, Research Analyst, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
WITNESSES:
From the Department of Fisheries and Oceans:
Patrick Chamut, Assistant Deputy Minister, Fisheries Management;
Guy Beaupré, Director General, International Affairs Directorate.
The committee commenced consideration of its Order of Reference pertaining to its study on matters relating to straddling stocks and to fish habitat (See committee proceedings of November 5, 2002, Issue No. 1).
Mr. Chamut made a presentation and answered questions.
At 8:45 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Cochrane, Comeau, Cook, Hubley, Mahovlich, Phalen and Watt (8).
In attendance: Claude Emery, Research Analyst, Library of Parliament.

From the Fisheries Crisis Alliance:
Gus Etchegary, spokesperson.
The committee resumed consideration of its Order of Reference pertaining to its study on matters relating to straddling stocks and to fish habitat (See committee proceedings of November 5, 2002, Issue No. 1).
Mr. Etchegary submitted a brief on behalf of the Fisheries Crisis Alliance, made a presentation and answered questions.
After debate, members agreed that the witnesses scheduled for Tuesday, December 10, 2002, be asked to come later in the spring of 2003 instead.
At 9:05 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
