The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 7:04 p.m., in room 505, Victoria Building, the Deputy Chair, the Honourable Joan Cook, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Cochrane, Comeau, Cook, Hubley, Mahovlich, and Watt (7).
In attendance: Claude Emery, Research Analyst, Library of Parliament.
The committee resumed consideration of its Order of Reference relating to straddling stocks and to fish habitat. (See Committee Proceedings of November 5, 2002, Issue No. 1.)
WITNESSES:
From the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Habitat Management Directorate:
Mr. Richard Wex, Director General;
Mr. Richard Nadeau, Director, Habitat Operations;
Mr. Patrice LeBlanc, Director, Habitat Programs;
Ms. Christine Stoneman, Acting Director, Habitat Policy and Regulatory Affairs.
Mr. Wax made a statement and, with Messrs. Nadeau and LeBlanc and Ms. Stoneman, answered questions.
At 8:43 p.m., the committee resumed consideration of its Order of Reference relating to quota allocations and benefits to Nunavut and Nunavik fishermen. (See Committee Proceedings of June 17, 2003, Issue No. 8.)
The committee considered the following draft budget application:

The Honourable Senator Comeau moved that the draft budget application be adopted.
After debate, the question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
It was agreed that the Honourable Senator Watt chair the committee's meeting of Wednesday, September 17, 2003.
At 8:54 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair.
