The Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights met this day at 5:30 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Maheu presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beaudoin, Fraser, Maheu, Poy and Rossiter (5).

The committee resumed consideration of its Order of Reference pertaining to its examination of Canada's possible adherence to the American Convention on Human Rights.
Mr. Bantey made a statement and answered questions.
Professor Harrington made a statement and answered questions.
At 7:05 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

The committee resumed consideration of its Order of Reference pertaining to its examination of Canada's possible adherence to the American Convention on Human Rights.
Professor John McEvoy and Professor Don Fleming made statements and answered questions.
The committee commenced consideration of its Order of Reference inviting Professor Nicole LaViolette of the University of Ottawa to present her report entitled "The Principal International Human Rights Instruments to which Canada has not yet acceded.''
Professor Nicole LaViolette made a statement and answered questions.
At 7:15 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
