The Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights met this day at 11:35 a.m., in room 257, East Block, the Chair, the Honourable Shirley Maheu presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beaudoin, Ferretti Barth, Joyal, P.C., LaPierre and Maheu (4).
In attendance: Carol Hilling, Research Analyst, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
The committee resumed its study upon key legal issues affecting the subject of on-reserve matrimonial real property on the breakdown of a marriage or common law relationship and the policy context in which they are situated.
WITNESSES:
As individuals:
Mary Eberts, co-author of Matrimonial Property on Reserve;
Bev Jacobs, co-author of Matrimonial Property on Reserve;
Margaret Panasse-Mayer, Past Chief of the Nipissing First Nation.
At 11:40 a.m., Ms. Eberts and Ms. Jacobs made a statement and answered questions.
At 13:05 p.m., the committee suspended its proceedings for 20 minutes.
At 13:30 p.m., Ms. Panasse-Mayer made a statement and answered questions.
At 14:15, the committee proceeded in camera to discuss a draft agenda.
At 15:10 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
