The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 7:02 p.m., in room 505, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Gerald J. Comeau, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Cochrane, Comeau, Hubley, Mahovlich, Phalen, Robichaud, P.C., and Watt (8).

In attendance: Claude Emery, Research Officer, Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Friday, February 13, 2004, the committee continued its study on matters relating to straddling stocks and fish habitat. (For complete text of Order of Reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1, dated February 11, 2004.)

WITNESSES:

From the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency:

Robert Connelly, Acting President;

John McCauley, Director, Legislative and Regulatory Affairs.

Mr. Connelly made a presentation and answered questions.

At 8:39 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair.

The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 7:00 p.m., in room 505, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Gerald J. Comeau, presiding.

The Honourable Shawn Murphy, P.C., M.P., Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans with special emphasis on the Oceans Action Plan.

Larry Murray, Deputy Minister;

Sue Kirby, Assistant Deputy Minister, Oceans;

David Bevan, Acting Assistant Deputy Minister, Fisheries and Aquaculture Management.

The Honourable Geoff Regan and the Honourable Shawn Murphy made a presentation and, with Messrs. Bevan and Murray, answered questions.

At 8:50 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair.
