The Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day at 9:40 a.m., in Ballroom II, Renaissance Vancouver Hotel Harbourside, the Chair, the Honourable Colin Kenny, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Banks, Day, Forrestall, Kenny, Meighen, Nolin and Stollery (7).
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament: William Price, Analyst; Major General (Ret'd) Keith McDonald, Senior Military Advisor; Inspector Harold O'Connell, RCMP Liaison Officer; Barry Denofsky, National Security Advisor; Captain (N) Kelly Williams, DND Liaison Officer; and Maurice Dessureault, Military Advisor.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, October 20, 2004, the committee continued its examination on the need for a national security policy for Canada. (See Issue No. 1, Monday, October 25, 2004, of the committee's proceedings for the full text of the Order of Reference.)

At 11:30 a.m., the committee resumed its sitting.

At 12:39 p.m., the committee suspended its sitting.
At 12:47 p.m., the committee resumed its sitting in camera in the Port of Vancouver Room.
In accordance with rule 92(2)(e), the committee considered its draft agenda.
It was moved by the Honourable Senator Forrestall, that the following budget application for the Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2006 be adopted; and
That the Chair submit the same to the Standing Senate Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration.
