The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs met this day, at 4:15 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the Honourable Lise Bacon, Chair, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bacon, Cools, Hubley, Joyal, P.C., Milne and Pearson (6).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Hervieux-Payette, P.C. (1).

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament, Margaret Young and Wade Raaflaub, Analysts.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 10, 2005, the committee began its consideration of Bill S-21, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (protection of children).

WITNESS:

Senate:

The Honourable Senator Céline Hervieux-Payette, P.C., Sponsor of the Bill.

The Honourable Senator Hervieux-Payette, P.C., made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 6:10 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Hervieux-Payette, P.C. (1).

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 10, 2005, the committee continued its consideration of Bill S-21, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (protection of children).

Peter Newell, Joint Coordinator.

Mr. Newell made an opening statement and answered questions.
