The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met at 10:45 a.m., this day, in room 705 Victoria Building, the Honourable Senator Kirby, Chair, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Cook, Cordy, Keon, Kirby, Pépin, Stratton (7).
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament Research Branch: Howard Chodos, Analyst, Political and Social Affairs Division and Tim Riordan, Analyst, Political and Social Affairs Division.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, June 14, 2004, the committee continued its examination on Bill C-23, to establish the Department of Human Resources and Skills Development and to amend and repeal certain related Acts. (See Issue No. 24, Thursday, June 30, 2005, for the full text of the Order of Reference.)
The Honourable Senator Keon moved that the committee dispense with clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-23.
Pursuant to rule 97(7), with leave of the committee, the questions being put on the motion, it was adopted.
The Honourable Senator Cordy moved that Bill C-23 be adopted without amendment and that the Chair report the bill at the next sitting of the Senate.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, June 21, 2004, the committee began its examination on Bill C-22, to establish the Department of Social Development and to amend and repeal certain related Acts. (See Issue No. 24, Thursday, June 30, 2005, for the full text of the Order of Reference.)
The Honourable Senator Keon moved that the committee dispense with the clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-22.
Pursuant to rule 96(7), with leave of the committee, the question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
The Honourable Senator Pépin moved that Bill C-22 be adopted without amendment and that the Chair report the bill at the next sitting of the Senate.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
At 10:56 a.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair.
