The Special Senate Committee on Aging met this day at 12:34 p.m. in room 9, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Sharon Carstairs, P.C., presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Carstairs, P.C., Chaput, Cordy, Keon and Murray, P.C. (5).
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Julie Cool, Research Analyst.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, November 7, the committee continued its examination of the implications of an aging society in Canada. (For the complete text of the Order of Reference, see Issue No. 1, Monday, November 27, 2006.)
APPEARING:

WITNESSES:
National Senior Council:
Jean-Guy Soulière, Chair.
Human Resources and Social Development Canada:
Susan Scotti, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Income Security and Social Development.
Conférence des Tables régionales de concertation des aînés du Québec:
Jean-Guy Saint-Gelais, Secretary and former Chair.
The Chair made an opening statement.
The minister made a presentation and, with the assistance of Ms. Scotti, answered questions.
At 1:37 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 1:47 p.m., the committee resumed in camera pursuant to paragraph 92(2)(f) of the regulations to consider a draft agenda.
It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room.
At 2:07 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 2:11 p.m., the committee resumed in public.
The Chair made a statement.
Mr. Saint-Gelais made a presentation and answered questions.
At 3:07 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
