The Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day in camera at 9:30 a.m., in room 7, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Colin Kenny, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Atkins, Banks, Campbell, Day, Kenny, Moore, Poulin and Tkachuk (8).
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament: William Price and Brigadier- General (Ret'd) Jim Cox, Analysts; Major-General (Ret'd) Keith McDonald, Senior Military Advisor; Barry Denofsky, National Security Advisor; Inspector Harold O'Connell, RCMP Liaison Officer; and Colonel Pierre Boucher, Captain (N) Peter Hoes and Colonel Tom Watt, DND Liaison Officers.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, April27, 2006, the committee continued its examination on the need for a national security policy for Canada. (See Issue No.1, Tuesday, April25, 2006, of the committee's proceedings for the full text of the Order of Reference.)
In accordance with rule92(2)(e), the committee considered its draft agenda.
It was moved by the Honourable Senator Poulin that the Honourable Senator Meighen be deputy chair of this committee.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
At 10:00 a.m., the committee suspended its sitting.
At 10:05 a.m., the committee resumed its sitting in public in room 2.
