The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met this day at 5:38 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the Chair, the Honourable Tommy Banks, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Angus, Banks, Milne, Mitchell, Nolin, Sibbeston and Spivak (7).

In attendance: Lynne Myers, Analyst, Parliamentary Information Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, October 31, 2006, the committee continued its examination of Bill S-205, to amend the Food and Drugs Act (clean drinking water). (For complete text of Order of Reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 9.)

WITNESS:

Senate of Canada:

The Honourable Senator Jerahmiel S. Grafstein, sponsor of the bill.

The Chair made an opening statement.

The Honourable Senator Grafstein made a presentation and answered questions.

It was agreed that the committee proceed to clause-by-clause consideration of Bill S-205, to amend the Food and Drugs Act (clean drinking water).

It was agreed that the title stand postponed.

It was agreed that clause 1 carry.

It was agreed that clause 2 carry.

It was agreed that clause 3 carry.

It was agreed that clause 4 carry.

It was agreed that the title carry.

It was agreed that the Bill carry.

It was agreed that the Chair report the bill to the Senate without amendment.

The Chair made a closing statement.

At 6:45 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met this day at 8:37 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Tommy Banks, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Angus, Banks, Cochrane, Milne and Mitchell (5).

In attendance: Lynne Myers, Analyst, Parliamentary Information Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, April 27, 2006, the committee continued its review of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (1999, c. 33) pursuant to section 343(1) of the said Act. (For complete text of Order of Reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)

WITNESSES:

Joe Schwarcz, Director, McGill University Office for Science and Society;

Gail Krantzberg, Professor and Director, Dofasco Centre for Engineering and Public Policy, McMaster University.
