IE/2006-10-26/057(P) — International Travel — Senator Harb
The Chair informed the Committee that on March 20, 2006, Senator Harb had submitted a request to the Steering Committee to use his travel points to cover a trip he had taken to Lebanon from March 4 to 7, 2005 following the assassination of Rafif Hariri, former Prime Minister of Lebanon, to offer condolences and meet with the Hariri family and the Lebanese President. While the Steering Committee did not approve the request on April 24, 2006, it agreed to have the Senator appear before the Subcommittee on May 4, 2006 and also agreed to invite him to present his request to the full Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration.
Senator Harb stated that he had undertaken the travel to Lebanon under his own initiative and answered questions.

IE/2006-11-02/059(P) — Consideration of the matter raised by the Honourable Senator Stratton Concerning Misuse of Funds by the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence
Committee Chair Senator Furey introduced the matter under consideration as: the expenditure of funding by the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence.
With the concurrence of the committee, he proposed that the Honourable Senator Stratton be invited to explain his concerns and answer questions, followed by inviting committee member and Chair of the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence, the Honourable Senator Kenny, to make a presentation and answer questions. The committee would then continue in camera to deliberate on the matter.
With the agreement of the committee, Senator Stratton was given the floor.
As Senator Stratton had withdrawn a question of privilege of October 19th, 2006, and had come to the conclusion that his matter of concern would best be resolved by the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration, he asked that the committee agree to amend the first item on the agenda for the day's proceedings by striking out ``alleged contempt of Parliament,'' to now read:
``Consideration of the matter raised by the Hon. Senator Stratton concerning alleged contempt of Parliament and the misuse of funds by the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence''
After debate, it was agreed to amend the said agenda item as per Senator Stratton's request.
The Honourable Senator Stratton made a statement and answered questions.
The Honourable Senator Stratton tabled three documents.
It was agreed that the document entitled: ``Letter to the Honourable Marjory LeBreton, P.C. from W.J. Natynczyk dated October 19, 2006'' presented by Senator Stratton be printed as an appendix to this day's Minutes of Proceedings (see Appendix 5900-1.39/I1, 1''1'').
