The Special Senate Committee on Aging met this day at 9 a.m., in the Oak Bay room, Victoria Conference Centre, the chair, the Honourable Sharon Carstairs, P.C., presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Carstairs, P.C., Cordy and Mercer (3).

In attendance: Julie Cool and Karin Phillips, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, November 1, 2007, the committee continued consideration of the implications of an aging society in Canada. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

Gudrun Langolf, Director.

B.C. Retired Teachers' Association:

Cliff Boldt, Director;

Reg Miller, Member of the Advocacy Committee.

Family Caregivers' Network Society:

Barbara MacLean, Executive Director.

BC Seniors Living Association:

Seona Stephen, Vice President.

Vancouver Island Health Authority:

Dr. Michael Cooper, Division Head of Geriatric Psychiatry;

Dr. Marianne McLennan, Director, Seniors, End of Life and Spiritual Health.

Saanich Peninsula Health Association:

Lyne England, Chair.

The chair made a statement.

Ms. Langolf and Mr. Boldt each made a presentation and, together with Mr. Miller, answered questions.

At 10:29 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:36 a.m., the committee resumed.

The chair made a statement.

Ms. MacLean, Ms. Stephen, Dr. McLellan, Dr. Cooper and Ms. England each made a presentation and answered questions.

At 12:02 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
