The Special Senate Committee on Aging met this day at 11:35 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Sharon Carstairs, P.C., presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Carstairs, P.C., Cordy, Mercer and Stratton (4).
In attendance: Julie Cool, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, November 1, 2007, the committee continued consideration of the implications of an aging society in Canada. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1)
WITNESSES:
National Seniors Council:
Jean-Guy Soulière, Chair.
International Federation on Ageing:
Jane Barratt, Secretary General.
National Pensioners and Seniors Citizens Federation:
Joyce Mitchell, Treasurer.
The chair made a statement.
Ms. Barratt, Ms. Mitchell and Mr. Soulière each made a presentation and answered question.
At 1:01 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 1:32 p.m., the committee resumed and, pursuant to rule 92(2)(f), proceeded in camera to consider a draft report.
It was agreed that the framework for the final report be adopted.
At 2:15 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
