The Senate Subcommittee on Cities met this day at 9 a.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Art Eggleton, P.C., presiding.

Members of the subcommittee present: The Honourable Senators Eggleton, P.C., Keon, Munson, Segal and Trenholme Counsell (5).

In attendance: Brian O'Neal, Havi Echinberg, and Tyler Kustra, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 and delegated on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 by the Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology, the subcommittee continued its examination of poverty, housing and homelessness. Mr. Mendelson, Ms Freiler, Ms Regehr, Mr. Hum, Mr. Northcott, Mr. Gray, Ms White and Mr. Blais participated in the roundtable discussion.

Mr. Hum made an opening presentation and responded to questions.

Mr. Robins made an opening presentation and responded to questions.

Ms Pasma, Mr. Osberg, Mr. Mulvale, Mr. Northcott, Mr. Mendelson and Ms Regher participated in the roundtable discussion.

Mr. Mendelson made an opening presentation and responded to questions.

Ms White, Mr. Blais, Mr. Rainer, Mr. Mendelson, Mr. Osberg, Mr. Mulvale and Ms Freiler participated in the roundtable discussion.

Senator Segal made an opening presentation and responded to questions.

Senator Eggleton made a concluding statement.

At 12:30 p.m., it was agreed that the subcommittee adjourn to the call of the chair.

The Senate Subcommittee on Cities met in camera this day at 11:35 a.m., in room 705, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Art Eggleton, P.C., presiding.

Members of the subcommittee present: The Honourable Senators Cordy, Eggleton, P.C., Keon, Munson, and Trenholme Counsell (5).

In attendance: Brian O'Neal and Havi Echinberg, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 and delegated on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 by the Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology, the subcommittee continued its examination on current social issues pertaining to Canada's largest cities, in particular poverty, housing and homelessness. (For complete text of order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

Pursuant to rule 92(2)(f), the subcommittee considered a draft report.

It was moved:

That the Subcommittee on Cities adopt the draft report entitled Poverty, Housing and Homelessness: Issues & Options subject to minor editorial changes approved by the chair, and that the report be forwarded to the Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

At 11:43 a.m., it was agreed that the subcommittee adjourn to the call of the chair.
