The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met at 5:05 p.m. this day, in room 9, Victoria building, the chair, the Honourable Maria Chaput, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Champagne, P.C., Chaput, Comeau, Losier-Cool, Murray, P.C., and Ringuette (6).

In attendance: Élise Hurtubise-Loranger, analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, November 20, 2007, the committee continued its consideration of the application of the Official Languages Act, and of the regulations and directives made under it within those institutions subject to the Act. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No 1.)

WITNESSES:

National Film Board of Canada:

Deborah Drisdell, Director, Strategic Planning and Government Relations.

Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission:

Annie Laflamme, Director, French Language Television Policy and Applications.

National Arts Centre:

Anne Tanguay, Manager, Translation Services and Champion of Official Languages.

CBC:

Jules Chiasson, Manager, Affiliated Stations / Francophonie.

Canada Council for the Arts:

André Courchesne, Director, Strategic Initiatives Division.

Ms. Drisdell, Ms. Laflamme and Ms. Tanguay, Mr. Chiasson and Mr. Courchesne made a statement and answered questions.

At 18:46, it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.

Jean-Louis Roy, Chair of the Board of Directors (by video conference)

Mr. Roy made a statement and answered questions.

At 6:07 p.m., the committee suspended.

À 6:11 p.m, pursuant to paragraph 92(2)(e) of the Rules of the Senate, the committee resumed in camera to discuss a draft agenda and a draft report.

At 18:40, it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
