The subcommittee on Population Health met this day at 4:10 p.m., in room 705, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Wilbert J. Keon, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Brown, Cochrane, Cook, Fairbairn, P.C., Keon, Pépin and Trenholme Counsell (7).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Eggleton, P.C. (1).

In attendance: Michael Toye, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 and delegated on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 by the Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology, the subcommittee continued its examination on the social determinants of health. The Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada:

Dr. André Lalonde, Executive Vice President.

Canadian Paediatric Society:

Marie Adèle Davis, Executive Director.

Dr. Kathryn Bigsby, Chair, Child Health Working Group.

Ms. White, Dr. Lalonde, Ms. Davis and Dr. Bigsby each made a statement and, together, answered questions.

At 5:35 p.m. the subcommittee suspended.

At 5:38 p.m., pursuant to rule 92(2)(e), the subcommittee continued in camera to discuss future business.
