The Standing Committee on Rules, Procedures and the Rights of Parliament met this day, in camera, at 9:32 a.m., in room 356-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Wilbert J. Keon, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Brown, Cools, Corbin, Cordy, Joyal, P.C., Keon, McCoy, Robichaud, P.C. and Smith, P.C. (9).

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament, Jack Stilborn and Michel Bédard, Analysts; Yolande Beaubien, Administrative Assistant for the committee.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to rule 86(1)(f)(i), the committee considered the use of Aboriginal languages in the Senate Chamber.

Pursuant to rule 92(2)(f), the committee proceeded to consideration, in camera, of a draft report on the use of Aboriginal languages in the Senate Chamber.

It was agreed that staff from senators' offices be permitted to remain in the room.

After debate, it was agreed that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure approve the final edited version, incorporating the approved amendments and that the chair be authorized to present the final edited report.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

At 10:25, the committee continued its proceedings in public.

The Honourable Senator Corbin moved:

That the following legislative budget application be approved for submission to the Standing Senate Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration:

Professional and Other Services $ 11,250.00
Transportation and Communications  0.00
Other Expenses 0.00
Total $ 11,250.00

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

At 10:29 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
