The Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs of the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day, in camera, at 12:14 p.m., in room 172-E, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Michael A. Meighen, presiding.
Members of the subcommittee present: The Honourable Senators Banks, Day, Kenny and Meighen (4).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Dallaire (1).
In attendance: Shaila Anwar, Co-Clerk of the Committee, Committees Directorate; James S. Cox, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Captain (N) John Gardam, Military Liaison Officer; and Barry Denofsky, National Security Advisor.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 and delegated on Monday, November 26, 2007 by the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence, the subcommittee continued its study on the services and benefits provided to veterans in recognition of their services to Canada. Pursuant to rule 92(2)(f), the committee met in camera to consider a draft report.
It was agreed that senators' staff be allowed to remain in the room.
It was agreed that the subcommittee keep a recording of the in camera proceedings of today's meeting on compact disk and that the disk be kept in the clerk's office for consultation by the members and staff of the subcommittee, and that the information contained on the disk be destroyed by the clerk at the end of this parliamentary session.
It was moved:
That the draft report on SISIP payments be approved with the changes discussed today; and
That the chair present the subcommittee's report to the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
At 12:50 p.m., the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the chair.
