The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day, in camera, at 10:35 a.m., in room 505, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Michael A. Meighen, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Eyton, Gerstein, Goldstein, Greene, Harb, Hervieux- Payette, P.C., Massicotte, Meighen, Moore, Oliver and Ringuette (11).
In attendance: Marc-André Pigeon and John Bulmer, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, and June M. Dewetering, Chief, Macroeconomics, Library of Parliament.
Pursuant to rule 92(2)(e), the committee met in camera for the purpose of considering a draft agenda.
It was moved that senators' staff be permitted to stay and that their Blackberrys be turned off.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
The chair proceeded to inform the members on the decisions taken by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure concerning the committee's schedule.
It was agreed that a summary of proceedings concerning the Hedge Funds Study be prepared and distributed to the members.
It was agreed that the analyst prepare a draft list of possible studies on the financial systems.
It was agreed that a draft schedule be prepared by the clerk.
At 11:30 a.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, March 4, 2009, the committee began its examination of the present state of the domestic and international financial system.

Daniel Kelly, Senior Vice-President, Legislative Affairs;
Ted Mallet, Chief Economist and Vice-President, Research.
Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters:
Geoff Schaadt, Director of National Programs.
Ms Pohlmann made a statement and, together with the other witnesses, answered questions.
At 5:20 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 5:24 p.m., the committee resumed.
Mr. Schaadt made a statement and answered questions.
At 6:10 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
