The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day at 4:10 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Michael A. Meighen, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Frum, Gerstein, Greene, Harb, Massicotte, Meighen, Moore, Peterson, Raine and Ringuette (10).
In attendance: Michael Dewing, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, June 16, 2009, the committee continued its examination of Bill S-232, An Act to amend the Patent Act (drugs for international humanitarian purposes) and to make consequential amendment to another act. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 10.)

Mr. Elliott began his statement.
At 4:25 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 5:55 p.m., the committee resumed.
Mr. Elliott resumed his statement.
Ms. Kiddell-Monroe and Mr. Ahmad also made statements and, together with Ms. Morrison and Mr. Elliott, answered questions.
At 6:34 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
