The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day at 4 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Michael A. Meighen, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Dawson, Frum, Gerstein, Greene, Harb, Hervieux- Payette, P.C., Massicotte, Meighen, Merchant, Moore, Oliver and Ringuette (12).
In attendance: John Bulmer, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, March 4, 2009, the committee continued its examination of the present state of the domestic and international financial system. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)

Bank of Canada:
Mark J. Carney, Governor;
Paul Jenkins, Senior Deputy Governor.
Governor Carney made a statement and, with Mr. Jenkins, answered questions.
At 6 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
