The Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs of the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day at 12:57 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Michael A. Meighen, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Banks, Day, Kenny, Meighen and Wallin (5).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Downe, Manning, Mitchell and Tkachuk (4).

In attendance: Jim Cox, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 and delegated to the subcommittee on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 by the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence, the subcommittee began its consideration of Bill C-33, An Act to amend the War Veterans Allowance Act.

The chair made a statement.

The subcommittee proceeded to discuss a draft agenda.

It was agreed that the subcommittee meet next week and invite witnesses before proceeding to clause-by-clause consideration of the bill.

At 1:14 p.m., the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the chair.

Darragh Mogan, Director General, Program and Service Policy Delivery (PSPD).

The chair made opening remarks.

Minister Thompson made a statement and, together with Mr. Mogan, answered questions.

At 12:55 p.m., it was agreed that the subcommittee proceed to clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-33, An Act to amend the War Veterans Allowance Act.

It was agreed that the title stand postponed.

It was agreed that clause 1 carry.

It was agreed that clause 2 carry.

It was agreed that clause 3 carry.

It was agreed that clause 4 carry.

It was agreed that clause 5 carry.

It was agreed that clause 6 carry.

It was agreed that clause 7 carry.

It was agreed that clause 8 carry.

It was agreed that the title carry.

It was agreed that this bill be adopted without amendment.

It was agreed that this bill be reported, without amendment, to the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence, at the earliest opportunity.
